Family Name Scrabble

I was approached with an awesome idea for this commission. After much careful planning and design, work proceeded on caving out all the tiles. Then, after what seemed like forever aligning and securing the tiles to the backer board, construction was completed and finish applied.

The Scrabble tiles were made from Poplar squares which were engraved on my CNC machine. I used a paint mask film to allow for easy painting of the engraved letters. The squares are mounted to oak-veneered plywood to keep everything together.

The finished piece measures 6ft wide by 3ft tall, and weighs in at approximately 30 pounds!

I’m exceedingly happy to report that I was able to deliver this piece on Christmas morning to a surprised and joyous family!
